Our Range of School Fire Doors
Headstocks Range
Our Headstocks range is our most popular product when it comes to offices and meeting rooms. With just the one aperture placed in the top half of the door, this provides a professional feel and helps bring natural light into a room.
Brierley Range
The Brierley range gives you a little bit extra – providing two apertures for your door, the top aperture measures 800mm in height, whilst the bottom aperture is half the size at 400mm height for that professional mirrored look.
Bentinck Range
Our Bentinck Range is the most popular for corridors, connecting doors and classrooms. With a full length aperture measuring 1200mm in height, it’s perfect for safety when there’s big footfall flowing through corridors.
Silver Hill Range
The Silver Hill range has various options for a bespoke finish. Includes traditional square 400x400mm apertures, with the solo product sitting in the top half of the door, whilst the duo provides a mirrored effect.
We cater for any school fire door requirements, from fire rated and none fire rated doors, along with a bespoke range of finishes. Talk to us today!
Benefits of Fire Doors for Schools
Although fire doors are a legal requirement at schools, there are numerous safety benefits that fire door can provide schools, such as:
Slowing the Spread
Fire doors help to reduce the spread of heat, smoke, and fire throughout a building in the event that a fire breaks out. This, in turn, provides students and members of staff more time to exit the premises.
Access Control
An often overlooked benefit of fire doors is their ability to improve the level of access control on school premises. Fire doors are robust and can be equipped with additional features, such as keycard access, to help prevent unauthorised people from entering certain areas of the building.
Efficient Egress
While the primary function of fire doors is to slow the spread of fumes and fires, they also provide an effective method of improving the egress routes in a building. This is due to the fact that they can be designed with increased width to allow greater access to egress pathways.
Where to Install School Fire Doors
While fire doors are effective at slowing the spread of fires throughout school buildings, their placement is extremely important to consider.
Fire doors should be used to protect any and all identified escape routes within a building. These doors should be at least FD30 rated, meaning that they will resist the elements of a fire and contain flames for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Fire doors should also be placed along long corridors to break up the extended space and reduce the spread of a fire through the building. Any corridor that is more than 30 metres long should be broken up with fire doors, the width of these should also be considered in order to account for high rates of footfall.
High risk rooms must also be considered, for schools these could include science and technology labs, boiler rooms, kitchens, and canteens. These rooms should be protected by higher rated doors (e.g. FD60 and above) in order to reduce the risk of a serious incident in the event that a fire breaks out in or near these areas.
